Founded in 1847, one of the first settlements in the San Antonio area, the City of Selma is located on the Old Austin Road, which is now Interstate 35. The 2010 Census revealed a population of 5,540 and was ranked as Bexar and adjacent counties' fastest growing community since 2000 with over 603% growth! Today the estimated population is 6,500.
The Mayor and the five-member council meet every first Thursday of each month at City Hall at 6:30 p.m. The original City Hall, a familiar two-story Spanish colonial building located on IH-35 now houses a restaurant, Hooters to be exact! Selma's Municipal Complex is located at 9375 Corporate Drive.
Children in grade-school may attend Judson ISD, SCUCISD or Comal ISD, depending on the location of their home. Emergency services for citizens include fire, police, and first responders for emergency medical needs. SAFES provides advanced life support services and transportation.
Selma is proud to be the chosen site for Retama Park, a beautiful horse-racing facility. Selma is also home to the Forum Shopping Center, a collection of retail establishments and restaurants.
Lastly, Selma will not be without a memory of its past. In 2007, a grant from the TXDOT helped renovate the city's historic Stage Coach Stop and construct a Visitor's Center. Also constructed was a city park with a play area and a pavilion. Co-sponsored by Selma and Schertz, is the Selma-Schertz Salute to Service Members 5k which raises money for Operation Comfort, an organization designed to support wounded service members.Images
