Founding Members of the
Schertz Chamber of Commerce
The Schertz Chamber of Commerce was established on June 28, 2005 with 29 founding Member businesses, but its roots began in 1974 with the Schertz Business Club, which was dedicated to supporting business growth and the community. The City of Schertz at that time was a few thousand strong, and the Business Club was established to help small businesses flourish, and as an organization that would partner with the city in its smart growth goals.
By 1988, the city had grown to more than 7,500 residents, and the Business Club experienced similar growth. In recognition of the future it embraced, the club changed its name to the Schertz Business Association and it joined a multi-city Chamber of Commerce for the purpose of exposing their members to a larger business body and networking opportunities.
By the early 2000s, the SBA had reached a milestone and Association Members faced a growth opportunity to step out and become a full-fledged, independent Chamber of Commerce. The Association voted, and in 2005, the Schertz Chamber of Commerce officially opened its doors. In 2007 and 2010, the cities of Selma and Cibolo, respectively, joined with the Schertz Chamber, as the Chamber broadened its membership to include not only cities but businesses outside the Schertz area.
The Schertz Chamber acts as a catalyst for business and community alike and is committed to the growth of our Member businesses and supporting small business entrepreneurship. We do this through local and state advocacy, providing education in business, and creating opportunities to market and network.
Our monthly events include luncheons, mixers and Biz Ed classes. Specific marketing opportunities are offered through our business directory, website listings, and individual business Chamber websites. We also provide Membership traffic statistics as well as inclusion of marketing and promotion items in our Welcome Bags and Visitor Center.
Through special groups and programs such as our Ambassadors, hYPer (young professionals group) and SCOC Leadership CORE program, we give our Members the unique opportunity to not only learn the qualities of great leadership but also actively participate within the Chamber process to build stronger ties with new and upcoming businesses, local municipalities and forge business to business partnerships.
